Important Meeting Monday, November 29th at 6:00 PM

If you are wondering what meeting we are talking about, you are not the only one.

If you have not been to the Post Office over the last few days, or have been out of town over the holiday weekend, you more than likely did not hear about it.  No "complimentary notification" was sent out to those individuals who have opted in to receive emails from the City for their meeting agendas.  No notice was posted on the City's Official web page, and we were not even able to find a record of this meeting agenda in the city archives.  The link here is to a picture we took of the posting in the post office so you all can have a copy and know what to expect.  November 29, 2010 Special City Council Meeting Agenda

By the lack of notices sent out, this is more than likely a meeting you DO NOT want to miss.  Why is the city being so sneaky about this meeting?  Technically, they did put out notification, at the post office, but obviously they didn't want too many people to see it.

The most important item on this agenda is the "New Business" item #2, Outsourcing of Operations for Water and Wastewater.  This is a big deal and can substantially impact all Polk City Utility customers residing both in City limits and in the county.  Have the Council members been given ample time to research this new contract?  Where and when was this request for sealed bids advertised for the past 30 days, as required by Ordinance 2010-09.  Were at least 3 sealed bids received before this contract is going to be considered?  If the city does end up going under, will the County be bound to this new contract the City will be considering?  We need to know!  Will the city residents be the ones stuck paying high rates for the remainder of the contract? Will the public be able to get these questioned answered or will we be forbidden to speak once again!!
PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND THIS VERY IMPORTANT MEETING.

  1. Folks...rumor has it our bills are about to be even more outlandinsh than they already are. A person who runs one of our local businesses says she/he was told it is already a done deal; and I heard this well before Thanksgiving. Are any of our council persons benefiting financially from any of the questionable practices they so freely exercise? Curious minds want to know...are we now ready to band together and proceed with acquiring legal council? How about a call and day trip to Jacksonville? or a call to Bill O'Reilly? WE NEED TO ACT NOW!!! Texas

  3. If we hire a lawyer now we will be paying for 3 legal teams, fighting both sides of the issue, with our tax dollars, Tom Cloud, the County lawyers fighting Polk City, and our own lawyer. Maybe we should be a little patient, and let the County and the City fight this one out. I have a lot of faith in the County.

  4. We need legal council to represent the concerns of the citizens , do you honestly thank the county or polk city are concerned with the citizens . They failed to send the city a notice to cure default because they knew the extensive repair needed to be done to mount olive. The county allowed the default for two years. During the two years the city was in default , the county a agreed to waive impact fees to Browning investments . Why, because the county did not want to have to take back the plant . In additional , during the past few years , our cost of living has increased to cover the cost of the (Mount Olive Money Pit )
Wake up Polk City , Our City council continues to turn a deaf ear towards the citizens of Polk City . We the People need to hire legal. Council in order for our City Council to listen to We the People

  5. To add to my comment , there are many legal issues that need to be resolved. If we hire legal counsel. We will have a voice in the mediation between Polk city and the county. We the citizens of suffered a financial hardship as a result of the county failure to enforce their legal rights at time of Polk city default . Their are other legal issues that I am unable to talk about. However , if we do hire counsel , then we will consult with our legal counsel.

  6. I LIVE IN MOSN AND I GOT A NOTICE ON OUR EMAIL BOARD. THE MAYOR POSTED IT. IT SEEMED VERY STRANGE TO ME THAT I DIDN'T GET A NOTICE FROM THE CITY, BECAUSE I AM ON THEIR EMAIL NOTIFICATION LIST?????? WHY DO THEY NOT WANT THE CITIZENS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS MEETING??? THEY KNOW THE FOLKS ON THIS LIST DO THEIR HOME WORK AND INVESTIGATE WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO. PLEASE SEND ANY INFORMATION TO THE AG OF FLORIDA. THEY ARE REQUIRED TO CONDUCT THE CITY BUSINESS BY THE LAWS AND THEY ARE NOT.
I AM NOT AT MOSN RIGHT NOW BUT HOPE ALL WHO ARE WILL ATTEND THE MEETING. THIS HAS TO STOP.
THANK YOU TO THE CONCERNED CITIZENS.
I AM ABSOLUTELY ILL OVER THIS.WISH I HAD NEVER HEARD OF POLK CITY.
