It was a very short meeting at the Lakeland City Hall between representatives of Polk County and Polk City. In exactly 10 minutes is was established that there is no room for negotiations on the part of the County, and that Polk City will be facing an long, expensive legal battle against the county. Here is a link to The Ledger article: Polk City, County At Financial Impasse One note regarding the article, it fails to mention the 12% utility increase that was implemented in November, 2009, only 6 months prior to the 50% increase voted on at the June 8, 2010 City Council meeting, with an effective date of July 9, 2010. But the city couldn't wait that long to get the extra income, therefore started applying the 50% increase to the water and sewer usage beginning on May 26, 2010 on forward, even before the resolution was even signed!!!
The public better brace themselves for more creative ways for the city to increase their revenue to pay for this upcoming legal battle with the county.
Well all the county has to do is ask and I will provide them what this widow's(living in a small modest home with energy efficient appliances) utility bill has been each month for as far back as they want.
ReplyDeleteI know this will be hardship for a time, but I am more hopeful than I have been in a long time that someone has our back. Praying this is so...Texas
Go Polk County sue the hell out of that stinking city! Trudy Block lies every time she opens her mouth so you couldn't trust her even if they thought they could come to an agreement. How many days and counting till you recall her and the worthless Mayor?
ReplyDeleteThank you, CCOPC you all are great. We are so proud of you. We get more information from you than we have ever gotten from the City or the news paper. Please keep up the good work. I live near the area where the sewer backup happened last week. We are going to make a complaint to the health department. This area stinks so bad especially at night time. There is a lift station near my neighbor that I don't know how they live in that house. It stinks all the time. If it rains the smell comes up to my area. There is a water canal near the lift station and I am convinced that water is contaminated it also smells really bad. We are all county residents and pay City utilities and the worse is that we get treated like our money is not green enough. We don't have a say so in the City because we are county residents. So I say let us go to County utilities. The worse part is no one wants to buy houses in this area so we can't sell. I say the Mayor should do as he promised in a previous meeting. He said " he would work with this group and the residents together with the county if we all can find a solution to the deficit and how we can pay it off and he to would dissolve". why isn't he working on trying to dissolve instead of giving the attorney all the money. the only person winning and winning big time is the attorney. He knew he can make easy money with Polk City. SAD , SO SAD.
ReplyDeleteRetired and stress.
Too bad the Mayor or Vice Mayor aren't the ones with the sewer stench in their back yards! Maybe then they would feel urgent motivation to do something to fix the problems.
